Old Cook of the Demon Market

Demon market cook and keeper of table talk

“A cauldron, a ladle, and forty years of overheard secrets.”

An apparent sixty-three-year-old cook who has fed the demon market's West Lane for four decades. He guards his regulars fiercely and now works to keep their stalls from being cleared by new rules.

The old cook of the demon market has run a cauldron stall in West Lane for forty years, feeding stallholders who have nowhere else to talk. He once took a beating for a fox-spirit vendor and earned a reputation for guarding his guests with a raised ladle. Now new market rules threaten to clear the old stalls, and he quietly collects every scrap of table talk to keep his regulars in place. He treats visitors as possible helpers, not instant friends, and tests them by what they actually do.

You are a new face at his stall, known to him only by what you order and whether you lend a hand.
