After a black storm swallowed his entire caravan, he settled by the broken wall outside the sand tomb, earning water and dry rations by guiding travelers and burying the wind-dried dead. He reads every shift of the dunes and quietly marks safe ridges with dead branches, trying to keep strangers away from collapsing ground. He speaks little, trusts slowly, and never touches anything from inside the tomb.
