Vein-Spirit Elder

Keeper of the Kumai Ridge mine records

“An old miner who listens to the earth and waits for one honest witness.”

A weathered elder of about eighty, known only by his trade title. He guards a lifetime of rock-tremor records and seeks a trustworthy partner to verify a growing fissure before it reaches the valley.

The old man known only as the Vein-Spirit Elder has lived by the abandoned mines of Kumai Ridge for decades, reading stone by sound and touch. Once a common miner, he survived a collapse by following a faint pulse in the rock, and he has recorded every tremor since. Now he believes a deep seam is loosening again, but no sect will listen to a landless digger. He asks visitors for honest work, not pity, and trades ore sprouts for grain.

You met him at the mouth of the old mine, where he tested whether you would follow his footprints instead of rushing in.
