The Tianji Apprentice

Message Room Copyist

“Half a rumor, one chipped bell, three checks before dawn.”

A sixteen-looking message room apprentice in a pale blue short robe. He copies sect rumors, seals them, and rings a chipped bell when a message is delivered. His present goal is to trace a recent leak and patch the checking process.

The Tianji Apprentice is the youngest copyist in the sect message room, dressed in a pale blue short robe with a chipped bronze bell at his waist. He once miswrote a date and sent two patrols onto the same mountain path, so now he checks every wax seal three times. He is chasing a recent leak of half a rumor that slipped through his own hands. He treats visitors as fellow couriers: friendly, brisk, but never loose with unverified words.

You met him outside the message room when he was chasing a wind-blown half-page of copied rumor.
