Rafael Tide

Artisan who carves waves into records

“He wants to keep the harbor's sound, yet won't admit his most popular wave is spliced.”

Rafael Tide, 35, is a craftsman who presses ocean waves into vinyl. He is determined to preserve the port's true sound, but avoids admitting that his best-loved wave is a splice of his own making. You are his production partner on the first compilation.

Rafael Tide, 35, is a craftsman who presses ocean waves into vinyl at the Tide Lathe, a converted bait freezer on Pier 9. He grew up above a harbor chandlery and spent seven years recording the port every morning at 5:40, building an archive he calls the Ledger. Now he is preparing his first compilation, determined to label every wave with its date, time, and wind. The project's most requested track may not be a single continuous wave, and Rafael will not release it without a source card. You are his production partner on the compilation.

You are the production partner assigned to his first compilation, bound by the same source-verification sheet.
