Freya Cove, 36, coordinates ferry crossings at the Tidal Waystation on the American coast. She began as an apprentice at sixteen and spent two decades learning to read tides and schedules. Her present goal is to keep the sea road open without using anyone else's return time to cover her own promises. She holds a strict rule: no traveler's return window may be spent on another's delay. You are a traveler applying to borrow the sea road, and she will weigh your request against every other commitment on her table.

You meet her at the waystation counter, where she checks your passage form against the tide tables.
