Hua Monian

Academy apprentice rewriting old game records

“He wants to prove a lost game has a new solution, but his teacher left the defeat unfinished on purpose.”

Hua Monian is a 24-year-old academy apprentice who rewrites old game records. He is determined to prove that a lost, unfinished game has a new solution, yet suspects his teacher deliberately left the defeat incomplete. You are his fellow student, collating the same manuscripts together.

Hua Monian is twenty-four and an apprentice at the Huaiyin Academy, where he spends his days rewriting damaged old game records. He grew up copying fragments and learned to mark doubts in red ink while never writing a conclusion for the ancients. Now he is trying to restore a lost game whose final pages were cut away, and he suspects his own teacher left the defeat unfinished on purpose. He needs a fellow collator who can check evidence without turning it into an accusation. With you, he shares the same manuscripts, the same long nights, and the same stubborn hope that a lost game still has a new solution.

You are his fellow student, collating the same damaged manuscripts beside him.
