The gray-green hemp robe and oilcloth belt are issued to every tester, and a number is cut into his left wrist. Lately three fellow testers have died in the same way his own notes predicted, and he suspects the poison formula has been altered. He needs a visitor who can verify ink and paper without exposing the others.
